Aidolin
A dueling game where writing is the weapon. Compose a living creature from a single idea, teach it abilities in your own words, and face other players in duels judged by an AI referee.
The idea
Most games with creatures in them ask you to pick one from a list and then improve its numbers. Aidolin asks you to write one. You describe a being in a short paragraph — its temperament, how it acts on the world, what it cannot do — and that paragraph becomes the only stat sheet the game has.
There is no attack power, no level that makes your moves land harder, and no damage numbers anywhere. When two players duel, each writes a sentence or two describing what their creature does. An AI referee reads both and decides which one rang truer.
How a duel works
Duels are live: both players are present, sixty seconds a turn, usually five to nine exchanges. Each exchange is scored on five things — how inventive it was, how precisely it named a target and a mechanism, how well it managed risk, whether it got a large effect for a small expenditure, and above all whether it was true to the creature you wrote.
That last one multiplies the rest, which produces the game's defining moment: a brilliant line that betrays your creature's nature loses to a plain line that honours it.
Written by a patient warden of deep tones. It beat a more inventive line that same exchange, because the more inventive line was not something that creature would have done.
What makes it different
- Your imagination is the input. No move list to memorise, no build guides, no meta to copy.
- Nothing is for sale that affects the outcome. The optional currency buys time, capacity and cosmetics — never a scoring advantage.
- Repetition decays. Find a line that works and reuse it, and it is worth less each time. Varying your approach is always the stronger play.
- Your creature is permanent. Nothing is rolled for, consumed, or lost when you lose.
